Deschute's Black Butte Porter

Rich, heavy and dark with the color of roasted "chocolate" malt, Black Butte is a porter you can sink your teeth into --- a meal in itself. A century ago, this beer was a staple of the delivery men after whom it was named; if you didn't tip the guy a "porter", you might find some of your luggage damaged on arrival at the local hostelry! Sadly, the strength of the beer was lessened until the brew, although still dark, was re-christened "mild" ale. Porter as a class of ales has almost disappeared in the U.K. Black Butte returns us to a time when Porter was a pint to be proud of.

This beer has been Deschutes' "flagship" for distribution. It earned the title "Beer of the Nineties" from loyal customers, something Deschutes Brewery has a right to be proud of. It also signifies the approachability of this ale and how it dispels most preconceptions about dark beer. Finally, this ale is quite popular with women (another fact which defies our conventionality).

OG 1056, alcohol by weight 4.5%.

Oregon Brewed by Deschutes Brewery.
